Hi, I'm Jennifer!

I’m a passionate educator with over 20 years of experience bringing learning to life across PK–5 classrooms. My specialty? Interdisciplinary instruction that blends literacy, science, and joy into every lesson. 

Storybook Science began back in 2012 with my teacher besties and a big idea. At the time, our students were getting just 30 minutes of science a week with the specialist—and it wasn’t enough. They weren’t getting the time, exploration, or hands-on experiences needed to grow as curious thinkers and confident scientists. The effects showed up in upper grades and standardized testing… but more importantly, in their enthusiasm for learning.

So, we asked ourselves: “What if we used our literacy block to sneak in some science?”
And just like that, Storybook Science was born. We cracked open storybooks and let our students read, write, wonder, and investigate. And you know what? They LOVED it.

We saw our learners thrive—not just as readers and writers, but as budding scientists with big ideas and even bigger questions. And we knew we were on to something. We began sharing our strategies at state and national conferences, and before long, we were known as The Storybook Ladies.

Since then, we’ve supported thousands of teachers across the country, helping them discover how to use picture books as powerful springboards for interdisciplinary learning—without the overwhelm.

My teacher besties have since retired and I’ve become an empty nester.  So, in 2025, I decided to re-launch Storybook Science as a monthly membership and online community for K–2 teachers.

This space is for educators who want:

• Low-prep, high-impact lessons
• Meaningful integration of literacy and science
• And classrooms filled with wonder, joy, and discovery
